16th to 1st NOVEMBER BAR & KITCHEN CLOSED

Bowdens Crest Caravan Park is situated above the small historic county town of Langport. Its hard to imagine Langport as it would of been at the turn of the centure, with its ships & Barges bringing produce up the River Parret. It had its own Custom House, 20 Public Houses, 2 Railway stations, a Bank with its own bank notes, and now in the 21st century it is a quiet sleepy town with shops that still close on Wednesday afternoon. The opening of Tesco's in April 2002 was a major event for Langport now people do not have to travel a 25 mile round trip to a Supermarket, but its still the only shop open on Sundays in this very traditional Somerset Market Town.

The Hanging Chapel at the top of the hill in Langport, has been a Town Hall, Grammer School, Museum, armoury & Sunday School. Now its the local Masonic Lodge and is rarely open to the public. There are many cider farms in the area but there is only one 'Burrow Hill Cider Company' that can offer Cider Brandy. A visit here is a must, but beware sampling the produce can easily take you over the limits for driving !

The Park commands panoramic views over the Somerset Levels, River Parrett, Vale of Taunton Deane and on to Brendon Hill and Exmoor. The Quantock Hills form a grand backdrop to the lower moors. From the old Vineyard on a clear day you can see for approximately 30 miles of green unbuilt land, a sight hardly seen in todays England. The town of Langport has a great history some of which can be read here - or why not take a walk as the author suggests.

Transport to & from the Park - The nearest Bus service is in Langport (1.5 miles from the park). Buses run to Taunton & Yeovil approximately every hour during the week and Saturdays, with a very limited service on Sundays. The nearest Train Stations are - Taunton, Yeovil, Bridgwater & Castle Cary. A local Taxi service is available. Airports are approximately 1 hour away at Bristol & Exeter. Should you require any of the above services whilst on the park details can be given on request.

This is truly an area of natural West Country within easy reach of the many beauty spots of Somerset and its surrounding counties. There are several traditional market towns in the area, including Somerton, Street, Chard, Ilchester, Bruton to name but a few. A visit to the area would not be complete without taking time to visit Glastonbury & Street. Glastonbury holds many spell bound as they wonder the streets and local shops, take time to sit in one of the many Cafe's and watch the world go by, you could be in a different era completely. Street is the home to 'Clarks Village', the factory shopping village where you can get anything from shops to chocolate at reduced prices. This Village has increased in size several times over the last few years, but with the new M & S store opening it is well worth a visit.

Activities in the vicinity are vast from the many coarse and game fishing areas, along with cycle routes, stately homes and gardens, museums, crafts, cider mills, theatres, golf and many walks around quiet villages and hidden landscapes. The Park sells Day/Weekly & Annual Permits to the local lake - Coombe Lake which is managed by the Langport Angling Association. If you fancy a day on the beach we are half way between the Lyme Regis/Seaton & Brean/Berrow coast lines, either taking approximately 40 minutes by car. Information on other local fishing canbe found here.
